The bright colored 2015 Scharzhofberger Riesling Spätlese is very clear and slightly smoky on the still discreet and reductive nose. Lush and aromatic, this is a crystalline, piquant and racy Spätlese with a well structured, stimulatingly clear and salty finish. Excellent aging potential and really digestible.

There are plenty of rich, smoky notes to the roasted peach, pear tart and baked pineapple flavors of this white. Fresh acidity is very lively into the finish, which offers slate and savory accents, and plenty of black currant tones. Drink now through 2030.

Cheesy fermentative overtones give way to a site-typical amalgam of fresh apple garlanded in honeysuckle and heliotrope. This is another of those Prüm Kabinetts that is watery in a positive sense of that word, combining watercolor-like transparency and wash of flavor with delicacy and refreshment. As with the corresponding Graacher, the finishing sense of wet stone and floral perfume is striking, and here a mouthwatering hint of salinity adds significantly to the appeal.

Schloss Johannisberg Grunlack Riesling Spatlese, Rheingau 2015 (750 ml) Schloss Johannisberg Silberlack Riesling Erstes Grosses Gewachs, Rheingau 2013 (750 ml)
WE 94, WA 93

Fermented at 50% in 1,200-liter oak barrels, the 2015 Schloss Johannisberger Grünlack Riesling Spätlese opens with a very clear and piquant lemon and stony flavor, with yellow stone fruit and lactic aromas (of burnt milk) in the background. Very complex. On the palate, this 2015 Spätlese is piquant and creamy, very fresh and pure, with a remarkable acidity (of nine grams per liter) which balanced the 77 grams of residual sugar perfectly. This is a very finesse-full and stimulating Spätlese with mineral grip and tension. Gorgeous.

The intense yellow 2013 Schloss Johannisberger Silberlack Riesling GG offers an attractively cool and distinguished bouquet of ripe peaches and tropical fruit aromas intermixed with flinty and earthy flavors and a touch of oak (100% fermented in 1200 l Stückfässer). The palate is very round, fruit intense and elegant with lovely piquant notes that lead to a salty finish with a very good length and citrus flavors in the spicy aftertaste. Again this is a very noble and aristocratic, at the same time stimulating, Riesling that can be enjoyed for far more than a decade.
