The 2013 Riesling Spatlese Piesporter Goldtropfchen opens very clear and precise on the nose intermixing cool, slate aromas with grapefruit and white peach flavors. Intense and piquant on the palate, this is a surprisingly straight, pure, stimulating, piquant and salty Spätlese bottled with 7.5% alcohol and a rather moderate residual sugar of 67 grams per liter. The high acidity of 10.5 grams make this a long-distance runner.

The bright colored 2015 Scharzhofberger Riesling Spätlese is very clear and slightly smoky on the still discreet and reductive nose. Lush and aromatic, this is a crystalline, piquant and racy Spätlese with a well structured, stimulatingly clear and salty finish. Excellent aging potential and really digestible.

The 2014 Riesling Wehlener Sonnenuhr Kabinett is more open than the Graacher Himmelreich (#AP 19) and displays a very delicate bouquet of white fruits intermixed with vegetal and subtle slate aromas. Refined and juicy on the palate, this wine has a perfect balance of a fruity sweetness and a finely racy acidity. This Kabinett is very expressive and complex in its mineral and grippy finish. It is impressively long in the finish, but due to the piquancy and minerality, not due to alcohol that is just 8%. The Sonnenuhr is more complex and intense than the more delicate and filigreed Himmelreich.

Rich and powerful, with a seductive smokiness to the broad, concentrated flavors of ripe lime, mineral, pear tart and peach. Reveals a lush spiciness, with an elegant, lacy structure that supports the plush finish. Drink now through 2040.

The intense yellow 2013 Schloss Johannisberger Silberlack Riesling GG offers an attractively cool and distinguished bouquet of ripe peaches and tropical fruit aromas intermixed with flinty and earthy flavors and a touch of oak (100% fermented in 1200 l Stückfässer). The palate is very round, fruit intense and elegant with lovely piquant notes that lead to a salty finish with a very good length and citrus flavors in the spicy aftertaste. Again this is a very noble and aristocratic, at the same time stimulating, Riesling that can be enjoyed for far more than a decade.
